I have heard that I need special size windows in my bedroom, is this true?

Yes, per the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) Life Safety 101 “In dwellings or dwelling units of two rooms or more, every sleeping room and every living area shall have not less than one primary means of escape and one secondary means of escape.”

A window shall have a clear opening of not less than 5.7 feet with a width of not less than 20 inches; a height of not less than 24 inches and a sill height of not more than 44 inches above the floor. If you need further information, please contact the Fire Department at (603) 692-3457.
