Community Access to Recovery (C.A.R.) Initiative

What you need to know about the program
SOS

Individuals who suffer from drug addiction and wish to seek help have a limited number of resources with which they can access.  Many times they do not know where to go or how to find the help they need.

In recent years, there has been a significant increase in the use and abuse of opioids including heroin and fentanyl.  As a result, there has been an increase in near fatal and fatal overdoses.

The Somersworth Police Department, along with several other police departments in the Seacoast area, will be participating in the Community Access to Recovery program in an effort to offer resources to people seeking help with addiction by connecting them with a recovery coach from SOS, a Local Recovery Community Organizantion, through Goodwin Community Health.

This initiative is meant to allow people who are seeking help to freely come to their local police department and access available resources without the threat of being investigated or prosecuted for their addiction.  In short, to help them get the help that they need.

This is an important part of the Somersworth Police Department’s overall strategy to combat drug-related crime.  It complements our enforcement and prevention strategies with access to treatment and recovery.
