Library Cards

Getting Your Library Card

Library cards are free for anyone 5 years old or older who also:

  • is a resident of Somersworth, or
  • owns property or a business in Somersworth, or
  • attends Somersworth public schools from other communities, or
  • is employed by the City of Somersworth or the Somersworth School District.

If you don't qualify for a free library card in any of those categories, you may purchase an out-of-town library card. Out-of-town library cards cost $50 for one year or $25 for six months. Seniors (60 years and older) can purchase out-of-town cards for $35 for one year or $17.50 for six months.

To get your library card, come to the library with a photo ID and proof of Somersworth residency or employment. If your current Somersworth address is on your photo ID, you will only need to bring your photo ID. If your photo ID does not have your current Somersworth address, you will need to bring your photo ID and proof of residency (e.g., car registration, lease agreement, recent bill, etc.). If you are purchasing an out-of-town library card, you will need to bring a photo ID and the payment for your library card.

Children ages five through seventeen who want a library card will need to come with a parent or guardian who will accept responsibility for the items loaned to the child. The parent or guardian must either have a current Somersworth library card or show a valid ID. Children coming to the library with a non-resident adult can receive a temporary restricted card until their parent or guardian can confirm residency.

Renewing Your Library Card

Your library card is active for a period of one year and will need to be renewed annually. If you have shared your email address with us, you will receive a renewal reminder 30 days before your card will expire.

To renew your library card, bring your photo ID (and proof of residency, if your photo ID doesn't have your current Somersworth address on it) to the library. Your card will then be renewed for another year.
